Erik Thor Sandberg (b. 1975, Quantico, Virginia) lives and works in Washington, DC. For more than twenty-five years, Sandberg has developed a distinctive body of meticulously rendered figurative painting that draws on Surrealism, Magic Realism and Symbolism. Working primarily in oil, he combines the technical traditions of historical painting with an idiosyncratic contemporary imagery of the human figure, landscape and the natural world. His psychologically charged compositions move between the intimate and panoramic, constructing elaborate imagined narratives that are at once familiar, uncanny and fantastical.

CONNERSMITH has represented Sandberg since the beginning of his professional career, presenting his work through exhibitions and art fairs internationally. His work has been exhibited at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, MD; American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Washington, DC; Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA; and The Baker Museum, Naples, FL, among other public and private venues. His paintings are held in important private collections in the United States and internationally.
